DO NOT BUY.. !! ITS RUBBISH AND A WASTE OF MONEY December 11, 2008 Ms. L. Hall 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA.. !!
I am so dissapointed... I have only had this camera a few months.. its not a great picture.. and i dropped it..
ITS MEANT TO BE DROPPABLE AND WATERPROOF... i have damaged all the front side of the camera... and im so dissapointed.. it looks horrid now.. all scratched and dented.. and the pictres are not great either..
IT IS NOT DROP PROOF.. !!
The advert on TV... the little doggie has it in his mouth.. and chews it.. and the child bangs it.. where are all the marks on the camera after that.. !!??? the TV Commercial do not show those do they !!! very missleading... !!
I wish I had read the reviews more carefully on here.. as lots of people have complained about this item, and the durability of it.
I wish I had brought a different camera, and brought a waterproof case for it.
I was stupid.. and brought this camera for the colour of it.. rather than anything else..
TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.. ITS CRAP.. !!! do yourself a favour and DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.. !!
Shame on you Olympus....
Olympus Mju790SW November 28, 2008 Mr. K. M. Bradbury (Derbyshire) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This camera was fine until used for snorkelling for the first time when it packed up after taking a few rather poor shots .It was bought just over a year ago so I fear it may be out of warranty but looking at other Olympus reviews it would have failed had I used it a few weeks earlier. I doubt I will buy Olympus again
Great! November 21, 2008 Ms. Josie Mellor Really good camera! I have been so pleased with it! I bought before going travelling, it lasted 3 months, being used daily, in water, its been dropped, and still living today! so pleased with it stil! Sometimes the button sticks when taking a picture, but I think that is general wear & tear as it didn't do this when I first purchased it! And it looks amazing in Pink!!!!
Hard to beat November 16, 2008 Stephen Baines (Bath, Somerset, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We bought a pair of these cameras for our office to replace our previous site cameras which were getting broken and unreliable. As you can imagine, they have a fairly rough time of it, being used by different staff, on building sites, in all weather, five days a week. We've had them for several months and the only thing that has happened is some slight scratching of the front panel. Picture quality is very good and the menus are easy to use. You don't get a memory card included, but it is probably better to buy your own decent sized one than have a free-but-useless one thrown in which pushes up the price.
Recommended.
Stunning all-rounder November 9, 2008 I don't have a pen name (West London) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was going on the holiday of a lifetime which included a trip to the great barrier reef so investigated underwater cameras while wrestling with my conscience as to whether I should buy another digital camera as I already have a perfectly serviceable Fuji FinePix E900 Digital Camera [9MP 4 X Optical Zoom] In the end I decided to get the MJU850 as it was more compact as the E900 as well as having the underwater features.
After extensive usage I cannot speak highly enough of this camera. The first difference from my Fuji is how much better the night shots are thanks to a higher ISO setting of 1600. However you really need a compact tripod e.g. Joby Gorillapod to take full advantage of this as the camera has to be perfectly still or pictures are horribly blurred. Or in my case I had to find a ledge to rest it on as I'd forgotten my tripod. Moving on to the underwater performance, it survived a full day of being in and out of salt water for up to 90 mins at a time, as well as being sat on in my back pocket as I got on and off the boat. The underwater pictures are amazing and really captured the reef well despite the difficulties of seeing the lcd screen through snorkelling gear. Examples of nighttime and underwater shots have been added to the amazon page.
Other areas that impressed were the large LCD screen and the fact the battery seemed to last a long time between charges. The camera also has a scene seletion mode which makes it easy to pick the right settings. However I did miss having a viewfinder for bright daytime shots where viewing the LCD could be tricky due to glare.
In summary this camera gave me the pictures to make a once in a lifetime holiday even more memorable and the money spent is small for the priceless value of the pictures.
